THE GREETING FARM: Small Surprises with Guest Designer Heather Conklin

 

Hello, Greeting Farm fans! Heather here again with my final Guest Designer post. For today’s project, I wanted to create a celebration card, specifically a birthday card. My own birthday is this week, and I thought it would be fun to create something that would be just as fun to receive. 

I started by stamping the cute cake image from the Small Surprises clear stamp set onto a tag cut from the Elle’s Studio Perforated Tags metal die. I colored the image with alcohol markers, layering colors to add a bit of depth, and finished with a touch of white gel pen on the bunny cheeks. 

 

Once the tag was complete, I added the sentiment from the same stamp set, threaded a coordinating ribbon through the hole, and secured it with my tiny attacher. I then pulled a few papers from my stash and used a set of scalloped rectangle dies to create the card base. 

To finish this cute project, I stamped and colored a few more of the bunny images from the Small Surprises clear stamp set and added them to the card using some foam tape for extra dimension.

THE GREETING FARM: Mermaid Fun with Guest Designer Heather Conklin

 

Hello Greeting Farm fans! Heather back again with my second Guest Designer project for January. I had SO much fun with The Greeting Farm stamps on this fun card featuring the Mermaid Fun – Clear Stamps set.

I wanted to create a fun scene and had in my mind a tunnel card. Tunnel cards are fun as you can use any layered shape dies (circles, rectangles, etc.) and cut out the same shape in a repeated pattern, creating a smaller tunnel as you go. To achieve this look, I used a set of standard circle dies and skipped every other die in the set.

Pop each layer up with foam tape, and you can tuck in those fun mermaids, whales and sharks, in between layers of paper.

I finished this cute card off by adding a fun sentiment on a handcut banner, and little pearls that act like bubbles throughout the card. Isn’t the Mermaid Fun set just so cute?!

Paper Girls Challenge Blog: Gold

Good morning! Today's challenge on the Paper Girls Challenge Blog is Gold! I love anything that glitters, and this rose gold paper was itching to be all cut up.

I was fortunate enough to snag a few things from the Ellen Huston August sale, including this fantastic You Rock die set, and the Spread the Sparkle stamp set. I paired them with the rose gold glitter paper from Hobby Lobby and a Lawn Fawn Say Cheese die.

I popped up the gold frame onto a piece of white cardstock that I used both the Taylored Expressions Snowfall embossing folder, and the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables die. The patterned paper is a scrap from my scrap pile, and I added some of the Nuvo Crystal Drops in Bubblegum.

Paper Girls Challenge Blog: Labor Day

Happy Labor Day everyone! Since I'm a teacher, Labor Day has a special significance in my career. It signifies that the school year has started, and summer is now over. In my little house, we have a new school-ager, and we once again have our favorite kindergarten teacher. This card is for her.

I used a fantastic little owl card by Jennifer Rush. I really loved how cute she was. And the apple!!!! I used a combination of scraps from my scrap bin, and a few bits and pieces of the Bountiful Collection from Authentique. I know that there are little bits of pieces from Elle's Studio and Studio Calico, but I've no idea what line anymore. The stamp is also from Studio Calico.

Paper Girls Challenge Blog: Welcome to the World Card

I haven't blogged since September 2016. And not regularly since September 2015. Blogging started feeling unnatural, extra, too much. It did not really bring me JOY. And since JOY was my 2016 One Little Word... I ceased blogging, and spent more time creating. Funny how when I stopped blogging, I actually made more stuff (this is where the IG feed comes into play).

There are MANY reasons that I quit, and I won't go into all of them... But I'm ready to start sharing again. And not just on my Instagram feed either (although I totally would love for you to follow me there as well!).

So, when my lovely friend Erica asked me to create a few things for the Paper Girls Challenge Blog, I said "Of course!!!". And it felt right to even plan out this post (although admitting that you weren't good about something for 1.5 years is hard!!).

I love this card. And I love even more how stinking easy it really is to do this!

So, for starters... This stamp set. Concord and 9th is one of my favorite manufacturers of amazing stamps. Their sets are large (this one is 6x8"!) and have some of the best sentiments. This stamp is from the Globe Greetings stamp and die set. Seriously. I made a ton of graduation cards (21..!) using this set and the dies, and they were perfect.

The space background was made with a mixture of various Distress Ink minis that I had. I used Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, and Blueprint Sketch. Once the color was laid down in various patchy areas, I went over most of it in Black Soot. Do a few layers of dropping water and patting dry, and now the space scene is set. 

The last touches are created from flicking white paint with a stiff brush onto the image. Then I added a few extra stars with a white gel pen. The sentiment is embossed with a mix of gold and black powders, and the stamps are just stamped on... I did add some polar ice caps with the same white paint as the stars!

CHIBITRONICS!! Fun Ways to Light Up Your Projects

I am excited to share with you a few projects that are going live on HSN (Home Shopping Network) in a few hours! I was lucky to be asked to create a couple of things for Chibitronics, a fun newer company that is bridging the gap between crafting and electronics. I will admit, I am not an engineer, but these little circuit stickers are really fun to create with. I am going to share with you how I created the circuit for this fun wreath.

I started with my wreath form. In this case, it's just a ring that I cut from some chipboard. This provided enough stability for my project, and a nice flat surface for my circuit to stick to.

I started by drawing out my circuit onto the chipboard, then laying down the copper tape. I created a parallel circuit so that I could use multiple circuit stickers. Make sure to mark which side is your negative, and which is your positive. The stickers must be facing the correct way to work.

Since my circuit curved, I couldn't get a straight fold to work. To minimize any short circuits, I burnished the copper foil tape with a plastic pen. This way, the tape was really flat and wouldn't move.

I created a housing for the battery using some paper that matched the leaves that I was going to decorate the wreath with. The tape was also in a similar color. By taping the edge, it created a flap that I could position the battery in, and clamp on when I wanted the project to light.

See my cute little circuit! I even marked the positive and negative sections!

So when the housing was complete, and the circuits all complete, then I was ready to start stickering the project!

For this project, I chose to use the red LED circuit stickers. I thought that when finished, the red pops of light would mimic berries.

Since the battery is a wily little thing, I decided to use some double-sided tape to stick one side of the battery to the battery housing that I had created. This way, I wouldn't have any loose batteries if I moved the wreath.

Once I stuck the double-sided tape to the negative side of the battery, it fit nicely into the battery housing I had created, and allowed for the housing to open when I wanted to turn the wreath off.

It's ALIVE!! Seriously, isn't this just the coolest thing ever?!?!?

Once the project worked, then I was able to decorate. I chose a couple of colors of green cardstock from my stash, and used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out evergreen boughs and holly leaves.

 Isn't this amazing? Seriously, grab some of the Chibitronics Circuits and try your own projects!

I also created a great Hanukkah menorah display using the yellow lights, and a fun monogram using the white lights!

We R Memory Keeper's Guest Designer

Hello! I am Heather Conklin. I'm super excited to share with you how much fun I had creating for We R today! I live in Washington State with my wonderful husband, two little girls, and not-so-miniature schnauzer. I teach high school art during the day, and craft on nights and weekends when the kiddos head to bed. I've been crafting since 2004, but have been creating my entire life. I was so happy to see the wonderful colors of the Harvest Collection as they went perfectly with our recent family photographs.

CARD:

I love using all of my little bits and pieces for cards. For this card, I covered a card base using my Xyron 9" Creative Station, then used parts of the title strips from each paper sheet, and strips from the Fall Collage paper to add various patterns to the card base. Then, I simply added a ricrac ribbon and used dimensional adhesive with one of the Embossed Designer Stickers for a sentiment.

LAYOUT (2 PHOTO):

Cut down a sheet of Autumn Sprig to 11x11". Cut a 10x10" piece out of the middle out of a sheet of Pressed Flowers. Glue the 11x11" on top of the square frame of Pressed Flowers. Cut off a strip of the Fall Collage sheet and place it on the bottom third of your layout. Mat a 5x7" and wallet sized photo each with the leftover of the Pressed Flowers sheet. Place the 5x7" off center, and position the wallet in the photo's negative space.

Using a die cut machine, cut a doily out from the November Mist sheet and cut that in half. Position these pieces behind the photographs. Cut off the circle from Fall title, use some dimensional adhesive and place it over a few of the Embossed Designer Stickers. Use another of the Embossed Designer Stickers on the corner of your large photograph. Use Glossy Accents to highlight the white areas of the large orange flowers.

LAYOUT (1 PHOTO):

Cut down a sheet of Honeycomb to 11x11". Cut a dark brown piece of cardstock to 11.25x11.25". Glue the Honeycomb paper to the brown cardstock and then to a piece of vanilla cardstock. Cut a piece of Type Set to 8x10".

Corner round two alternate edges and glue down. Cut a piece of Pressed Flowers to 5x7" and corner round the opposite corners. Glue down, then using a contrasting marker, add faux stitching.

Mat your photo with a light cardstock, then take some of the leftover scraps of paper to make a collection of banners.

Place these under your photograph before you adhere it. Cut a circle, then layer a few of the Embossed Designer Stickers over it for your title. Die Cut a branch from cardstock, then add a few more of the Embossed Designer Stickers.

K-CUP HOLDER:

I cut the K Cup holder with my die cut machine using quality cardstock. Fold on all of the score lines, making a tube. The outermost section is the one next to the circles on the end. Adhere each edge flap as you go. When the K Cup holder is put together, add your decorative papers. For this one, I used rectangles of November Mist and a strip from the Fall Collage sheet. Make sure that you score your paper before attaching it to your holder. I then adhered circles of paper to each of the K Cups, then added a Embossed Designer Sticker to each of them.

Lastly, I tied the K Cups into the holder with some jute twine and tied a button to the bow.

Gossamer Blue Guest Design Challenge with My Mind's Eye

It's no secret that I love my monthly dose of Gossamer Blue. If I wasn't at work when the postman came, I think I would probably start stalking him about the time my GB box was to arrive. This last month, GB had a challenge for a Guest Design spot featuring My Mind's Eye products. Just another reason to go and snag some more of their enamel dots!!

For this layout, I combined quite a few new and older lines together. Stella & Rose, Alphabet Soup, Collectible and The Sweetest Thing with a little bit of twine and white cardstock. Seriously though... I love those enamel dots!! Pin It

I had SO much fun being a guest designer for ScrapbookSteals. I had never used Fabric Tape, and Love My Tapes' Fabric Tape was wonderful!
For this first card, I used the Fabric Tape instead of ribbon. It seriously is so easy to use!!

After making a really simple card, I then decided to try my hand at weaving the Fabric Tape. Because it is sticky, it was easy to create the pattern. To make it all meet, I kept the paper lengths longer until it was time to cut the edges clean.

I love a pretty Moleskine notebook. This one was super fun to cover the seam in the notebook. To make the Fabric Tape stay longer, I ran it over the edges of the notebook. LOVE THIS!!

And my last card, an adorable Christmas card. The trees are simple half circles, that have Fabric Tape on one side. Then, they are folded into thirds and adhered to the paper. There is also a top and bottom border using the tape as well.
